About Orsk
Orsk (Russian: Орск) is the second largest city in Orenburg Oblast, Russia, located on the steppe about 100 kilometers (62 mi) southeast of the southern tip of the Ural Mountains. The city straddles the Ural River. Since this river is considered a boundary between Europe and Asia, Orsk can be said to lie in two continents. It is served by the Orsk Airport. Population: 239,752 (2010 Census preliminary results); 250,963 (2002 Census); 270,711 (1989 Census).
The city is located where the Ural River turns from south to west and where the Or River comes in from the southeast (whence the name). It was as part of the Orenburg Line of forts.
The mayor of the city is Viktor Frants, who was elected in October 2010.
